In 1958, Charles Starkweather went on a famous murder spree beginning in Lincoln, Nebraska. Nine people were dead when he left Lincoln and took his 14-year-old girlfriend Caril Ann Fugate on the road. Starkweather later recounted for police their exact route across the Sand Hills of Nebraska to the Wyoming state line. The teens were caught outside Douglas, Wyoming. Caril Ann was given a sentence of life in prison which was commuted in 1976, and Charles went to the chair.
