Puya berteroniana Blooming Blue Puya berteroniana, a bromeliad native to Chile, blooming

Puya berteroniana Blooming Blue Puya berteroniana, a bromeliad native to Chile, blooming blue at Quail Gardens Encinitas ~ San Diego County, CA. Photo by Michael Buckner, The Plant Man Nursery San Diego, CA; May 30, 2009. Puyas are tropical / arid climate plants in the Bromeliad (Pineapple) Family. This plant is 10-20 years old ~ when it blooms it is in the process of dying. The blooming process takes 6 to 8 months Then the plant is gone. This is a flower which requires some investment.Debra Garrick
