Bake layers a day before to allow cake to cool completely, makes frosting easier & more fun. To make ahead & freeze, bake & cool & place each layer on baking sheet & freeze till firm, then place in 2-gal freezer bag or wrap in plastic & foil. Freeze up to 3 mths. Thaw cake layers at room temp for several hrs before frost.
