"Dance at Bougival" in 1883 by Pierre Auguste Renoir (Limoges 1841 - Cagnes-sur-mer 1919). Impresionist painter. Parisian open-air café’s were popular haunts for the Impressionists. Renoir’s loose brushwork gives us a sense of the energetic atmosphere, and suggests the movement of the swirling couple. The artist draws our gaze directly towards the lady’s face, which is painted with more delicate brushstrokes.
